Homebody, afterthoughts, Body and Devotion Opening

My culminating thesis exhibition, Homebody, has come to a close. I am feeling incredibly spoiled by the support I have received for the work in the exhibition, as well as excited for the work that I intend to continue moving forward. This entire experience has made me want to be in my studio more often. I hope to learn to weave soon. I understand how to take a textile apart, but putting one together is a whole other beast. I see limitless potential in fiber, and I could genuinely spend the rest of my life exploring it.

These past three years have been a whirlwind of emotions and growth. They have been the hardest few years of my life, but also the most fulfilling at the same time. Growing up, I never was really sure of what I wanted to do. I felt like I was mediocre at everything, that I didn’t have a calling. I didn’t have any interests, hobbies, skills - all I knew was how to draw a single eye on the corner of my homework, as all good art students would. My sense of self was utterly lost and confused. Through these past few years, moving out of state where I didn’t have any family to fall back on, has changed me fundamentally for the better. I have really enjoyed getting to know myself. Not to mention my incredible lifelong friends that I have made here in Boise. I would not have made it through graduate school without them.

For the first time in my life, I am excited and eager to see what the future holds.

Enough of that mushy heartfelt talk; back to business! At present, I am preparing for an installation with the Backyard Artists, hosted at Surel’s Place, titled Body and Devotion. This will be a pop up installation show, with my work being displayed in the Holdover House. The other artists involved in this exhibition (Kamryn Rose, Michael Candelaria, Maiyan Linane) will have their work in the Green Box, the tiny home, and the main gallery of Surel’s Place.

The opening reception takes place on Friday, April 25th from 6:00PM - 8:30PM, and the spaces will be available to the public from April 26th-27th, 12PM - 4PM.

I hope to see you there! I am anticipating having documentation from my solo exhibition, Homebody, up soon, so keep an eye out for that as well!
